The Top 10 Most Popular Centerfire Rifle Cartridges in the United States
Best Gun Trader compiled this list
The following list was assembled from a variety of online and print sources, including sales lists from major ammunition producers and RCBS reloading die sales. With a few exceptions, the various sources seem to parallel one other. Keep in mind that most (if not all).223 and 7.62×39 ammo offered is for plinking or “tactical” use rather than hunting. The same is likely to be true for a smaller, but still significant, percentage of.308 ammunition sold.
Almost every list includes the.223,.308,.30-06,.30-30,.270,.243, 7mm Rem. Mag., and.300 Win. Mag. The.222 Remington,.30 Carbine, and 7mm-08 Remington (formerly Top 10 stalwarts on most lists) have all declined in popularity, while the 7.62x39mm,.300 WSM,.338 Win. Mag., and 7mm-08 Remington have all appeared on at least one list but not others. On some lists, the.300 Win. Mag. and the 7mm Rem. Mag. switch places. Anyway, here are the averaged results based on the information I was able to gather. Consider it a rough estimate. Centerfire Rifle Cartridges
